3 Energy Medicine Tips to Ease Insomnia

Insomnia is a huge issue for many people. Let’s face it, there are few things that suck more than not sleeping, right? Because I’ve gotten so many requests to share ideas on the topic, I thought I’d share just a few quick tips to get you started on a better night’s sleep. Imbalanced energy is a pattern so do these each evening to reset the pattern.

Energy Medicine Exercises To Help You Sleep:

  1. Calm your “fight or flight” response
Take one hand and put the pad of your pointer finger and thumb together (so you’re making a ring shape). Make the same shape with your other hand. Gently place each at your temples. Allow the rest of your fingers to fall lightly onto your forehead. Hold this pose as you take deep breaths for a minute or so. This helps calm the “fight or flight” response in your body that is triggered during stress. Hold it for as long as you want.
  2. Pull energy out of your head
Sometimes, there is too much energy in your head and it needs to be pulled down into the rest of your body. You can this by gently dragging your fingertips  from the top of your head, down your face and chest and onto your belly. When you reach your lower belly, hold your hands flat firmly against it and take big, deep breaths. Focus on your breath for about 10 breaths.
  3. Close ALL your “eyes”
The pineal gland, a gland that regulates our sleep patterns, is thought to be our connection to deep thought. It’s located behind what we often refer to as the “3rd eye” (right between your eyebrows). This is a very active part of our brains and sometimes needs to be “turned off” for restful sleep. Close your eyes and image drawing a shade or closing the curtains over that “eye.” Take some deep breaths and hold the vision of that part of your brain being closed for the night.
  4. Do the Hook-Up
One of my favorite energy medicine techniques, by expert Donna Eden, can help chill you out by bringing all your meridians into balance. It’s called “The Hook Up.” Place the middle finger of one hand at your belly button and the middle finger of your other hand at your 3rd eye (right between your eyebrows). Gently pull up and hold each point while you take some deep breaths. You can hold this for about three minutes if you want.

Happy sleeping!
